About AFWT
African Fashion Week Toronto (AFWT) is a non-profit initiative launched in 2012 by Isaac Ansah to provide a platform for Black models, designers, and creatives to succeed in the fashion industry. Held annually in August, AFWT showcases culture-rich events and brand launch activities, bringing exposure to various designers and brands from across Canada and around the world.
AFWT serves as a vital platform for Black creatives, offering opportunities for exposure, networking, and professional development. The event has become one of the most anticipated diverse fashion weeks in Canada, drawing significant attention from media, industry professionals, and consumers.
A key aspect of AFWT's mission is its partnership with the Afro Centre for the Arts, an artist-led non-profit organization aimed at providing exhibitions, programs, and special projects that offer opportunities, leadership, and mentorship in the creative arts community for youth and adults within the Greater Toronto Area. This collaboration helps create more opportunities in Black communities by focusing on areas such as music and dance, fashion and design, film and theatre, and visual and performing arts.
Through its annual events and ongoing initiatives, African Fashion Week Toronto continues to celebrate and promote the rich diversity of African fashion, culture, and talent, while providing a platform for Afro designers, models, artisans, and creatives to showcase their work on an international stage.
